Big win for Hebron over Flower Mound
Lucy Crowder pitched a seven-hitter, and she got a game-ending fielder’s choice with runners at first and second as No. 10 Hebron beat No. 4 Flower Mound 3-2 in a matchup of area-ranked 6A softball teams.
Hebron (15-8, 6-3) won its fifth straight game and moved a game ahead of Flower Mound (17-8, 5-4) in the District 6-6A standings after both teams entered Tuesday in a four-way tie for second, one game behind Coppell. But the significance of the win went beyond that. Last year, Flower Mound was a state semifinalist, while Hebron lost in the first round of the playoffs.
Crowder was one out from a shutout before Flower Mound made it a one-run game on a two-out, two-run single by Brooke Hull in the top of the seventh. Crowder’s RBI single in the bottom of the third gave Hebron a 1-0 lead, and Hebron added two runs in the fourth with help from an RBI fielder’s choice by Allie Lovett on a bunt.
