Below are the superlative award winners for our 2024 baseball season...
Offensive Player of the Year
Adrian Rodriguez, Flower Mound, Sr.
Last year, Rodriguez was named the MVP of the 6A state championship game, in which he hit a two-run home run to help give Flower Mound a 6-4 win over Pearland for its second title in program history. This past season, the shortstop hit an RBI double in the bottom of the sixth inning to give Flower Mound a sign of life in what was a 2-1 loss to Pearland in the 6A state semifinal. The Texas A&M signee ended his high school career in explosive fashion, hitting .430 and six home runs. Rodriguez, the District 6-6A Offensive Player of the Year, notched 41 RBIs and was a THSBCA All-Star.
Also considered: Major Brignon, Celina; Ryan Williams, Grapevine
Pitcher of the Year
Brady Coe, Allen, Sr.
Whenever Brady Coe was on the mound, runs were scarce for opposing teams. The Abilene Christian signee posted a 0.30 ERA and struck out 96 batters in 71 innings. Coe only walked 19 hitters and boasted a 9-1 record with two saves. He was the District 5-6A MVP and a THSBCA All Star. Coe is the son of former Allen baseball coach Paul Coe and had one of the greatest season outings in program history.
Also considered: Michael Catalano, Frisco; Alex D’Angelo, Argyle
Newcomer of the Year
Asher Lacy, Lovejoy, Jr.
Lacy played a significant role in Lovejoy’s first run to the state tournament and state title game, despite it only being his inaugural season on varsity. The District 13-5A Newcomer of the Year hit .314 and drove in 27 runs for the 5A state finalist. Lacy also had a 5-1 record on the mound. The righty finished the season with a 0.55 ERA. In the 5A state title game, Lacy hit an RBI double. He led Lovejoy with two RBIs in the 5A state semifinal shutout win over Magnolia West and pitched a hitless inning as the reliever.
Also considered: Lash Henderson, Prestonwood Christian; Jabin Moore, Rockwall-Heath
Coach of the Year
Jimmy Webster, Grapevine
Two seasons ago, Grapevine won 10 games. In 2023, it turned that total into 33. This year, Grapevine went 40-5 and won its second state title in program history. Jimmy Webster, in his sixth season as Grapevine’s coach, oversaw the program’s championship season that included a district title and three series sweeps in the playoffs. Webster’s squad held off esteemed district mate Argyle (a three-time state champ and 2023 5A state finalist) in the regional finals to advance to its third state tournament and first since 2017. Grapevine showed great resolve in its two state tournament games, edging Leander Rouse 2-1 in the semifinal and Lovejoy 6-5 in the title game courtesy of a Jarett Boswell walk-off RBI single. That performance earned Grapevine a 10th-place spot in the MaxPreps national rankings.
Also considered: Ryan Gros, Lovejoy; Danny Wallace, Flower Mound
