SportsDayHS’ 2020 all-area boys basketball teams: See full first, second and third teams for the Dallas area

Players from 17 different local schools are represented.

SportsDayHS writer Greg Riddle breaks down The Dallas Morning News’ all-area team for the 2020 Texas high school boys basketball season. We have more awards as well, including The News’ Player of the Year and all-district lists at the bottom of this post.

First team

Keyonte George, Lewisville

Sophomore, G, 6-3

The five-star recruit is rated the second-best player in Texas, the third-best shooting guard in the nation and the 16th-best player overall in America in the Class of 2022 by 247Sports. George, an all-state pick and the District 6-6A MVP, averaged 23.9 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 2.1 steals. George scored 32 points in an 86-73 loss to defending Class 6A state champion Duncanville in the second round of the playoffs. He has offers from Baylor, Texas, Texas A&M, TCU and Ole Miss.

Rylan Griffen, Richardson

Sophomore, G, 6-4

The four-star recruit was one of the top scorers in the Dallas area, averaging 21.7 points and making 96 shots from 3-point range. Griffen averaged 25.7 points in wins over three state semifinalists: Class 6A Duncanville and Wylie and 5A Fort Bend Hightower. Griffen’s 26 points in an 81-77 overtime win against defending 6A state champion Duncanville helped Richardson earn a share of the District 8-6A title. Griffen averaged 27.0 points in the first three rounds of the playoffs as Richardson beat DeSoto, Denton Guyer and Waxahachie — all ranked in the top 20 in the state in Class 6A — to reach the regional tournament for the first time since 1987. He has offers from Texas A&M, SMU and DePaul, according to Rivals.

Harrison Ingram, St. Mark’s

Junior, F, 6-6

The five-star recruit, ranked by 247Sports as the No. 1 player in Texas and the 20th-best player in the nation in the Class of 2021, led St. Mark’s to a 29-4 record and the SPC championship. In the regular season, Ingram led the Dallas area in assists (7.0 per game), tied for fourth in rebounds (10.9 per game) and tied for 14th in scoring (19.5 points). He has offers from Kansas, North Carolina, Texas Tech, Baylor, Florida, Stanford, Arkansas, Memphis, Oklahoma, Texas, TCU, Tennessee, UCLA and Texas A&M, among others.

Micah Peavy, Duncanville

Senior, F, 6-7

The Texas Tech signee was the only player from Texas selected for the Jordan Brand Classic All-American Game. Peavy, rated the second-best player in Texas in the Class of 2020 by 247Sports, led Duncanville back to the state tournament a year after the Panthers won the Class 6A state title and he was named MVP of the state final. The four-star recruit is averaging a team-leading 17.3 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.5 steals for a 29-5 team. Peavy scored at least 15 points in 21 of his 29 games for the state’s top-ranked team, with a season high of 37 against Richardson, ranked No. 6 in the state.

Jaylon Tyson, John Paul II

Junior, F, 6-6

The first-team all-state forward led John Paul II to a 40-1 record and the TAPPS 6A state championship — the first state title in school history. Tyson was the TAPPS 2-6A MVP and averaged 23.3 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists. He has offers from Texas Tech, Oklahoma, TCU, Texas A&M and Oral Roberts.

Jaylin Jackson-Posey, Grand Prairie

Senior, Util., 6-3

The Stephen F. Austin signee was an all-state selection and the District 7-6A MVP after leading Grand Prairie to its first playoff berth since 2004. Jackson-Posey, who transferred to Grand Prairie from Irving’s Universal Academy for his senior season, averaged 19.5 points, 7.4 rebounds and 2.6 assists. He scored 28 points in a 66-65 overtime loss to defending Class 6A state champion Duncanville in the 6A Region I quarterfinals as District 7-6A champion Grand Prairie finished 27-3.

Second team

Wade Taylor IV

Lancaster, Junior, PG

Notable: The four-star recruit was all-state. He averaged 15.7 points, 4.3 assists and 3.3 steals and made 74 3-pointers for the 36-1 5A state semifinalist.

Baylor Hebb

Colleyville Heritage, Senior, G

Notable: The Loyola-Chicago signee was an all-state, District 7-5A MVP. He averaged 24.4 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists for the 7-5A champion.

Cason Wallace

Richardson, Sophomore, G

Notable: The four-star recruit averaged 17.2 points, 7.2 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.5 steals. He made 49 3-pointers for the 34-4 Class 6A Region I semifinalist.

JaKobe Coles

Denton Guyer, Senior, F

Notable: The Butler signee was an all-state, District 5-6A co-MVP. He averaged 18.3 points, 8.3 rebounds and 3.4 assists for the 5-6A champion in the regular season.

Joey Madimba

Mansfield Timberview, Senior, G/F

Notable: The all-state, District 5-5A co-MVP averaged 17 points, 7 rebounds and 2.7 assists to lead Timberview to the state tournament for the third time in four years.

Trae Clayton

Oak Cliff Faith Family, Sophomore, Util.

Notable: The Four-star recruit was an all-state, District 10-4A MVP. He averaged 17 points, 8 rebounds and 2.5 assists for the 4A state semifinalist. He was rated the sixth-best player in Texas in the Class of 2022.

CJ Noland

Waxahachie, Junior, Util.

Notable: The District 7-6A offensive MVP averaged 19.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.7 assists for the 6A Region I quarterfinalist.

Notable: The Texas A&M pledge was an all-state, District 9-6A MVP. He averaged 12.1 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.1 assists for a team that was No. 5 in the final 6A state rankings.

Julien Smith

Justin Northwest, Senior, G

Notable: The District 8-5A co-offensive MVP averaged 26 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists. He scored 20 or more points in all but five games.

Donald Ghostone

Grand Prairie, Senior, wing

Notable: The Texas A&M-Commerce signee averaged 18.1 points and 5.3 rebounds for the 6A Region I quarterfinalist.

Jarren Cook

Carrollton Newman Smith, Senior, G/F

Notable: The Sam Houston State signee was an all-state, District 11-5A MVP. He averaged 17.9 points and 4.1 rebounds for a 29-1 team that lost in the 5A Region II quarterfinals.

Jordan Walsh

Oak Cliff Faith Family, Sophomore, G/F

Notable: The four-star recruit was all-state and averaged 16 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 blocks as a 4A state semifinalist. He was the District 10-4A defensive MVP.

Christian Henry

Madison, Junior, Util.

Notable: The District 11-3A MVP averaged a team-best 14.2 points for 3A state finalist and scored a team-high 17 points in a state semifinal win.

Zaakir Sawyer

Mesquite Horn, Senior, Util.

Notable: The Louisiana-Monroe signee was the District 11-6A MVP, led 6A Region II quarterfinalists in scoring (18 points per game), averaged 7.0 rebounds and scored 20 or more points 14 times.
