Red Oak’s Breanna Davis

What she did: Davis averaged 28 points and 8 assists as Red Oak went 2-0 last week. She had a career-high 33 points with five steals and five assists in a 58-30 win over Cleburne on Friday.

Who she is: A 5-8 junior point guard. Among many schools showing recruiting interest in her are Utah, Pennsylvania, Seton Hall, Rice, North Texas and SMU.

The stats: Davis is averaging 22.5 points, 6.4 rebounds, 7.0 assists and 3.8 steals per game. She has over 1,700 points scored in her career. She has helped Red Oak to a 19-4 record, 9-0 in District 14-5A, with a 12-game winning streak. Red Oak is ranked No. 12 in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches’ Class 5A state poll heading into Tuesday’s home game against No. 24 Midlothian.

She said it: “In the Cleburne game, I focused on my form, especially with balance. My teammates really helped me with screens. I’ve improved this year on 3-point and mid-range shooting. I used to take it to the paint every time, but that’s back when I was young and everybody was about the same height.”

Coach said it: “Her jump shot has improved the most. As a freshman she would put her thumb on the ball with her other hand. Now she’s very efficient. She’s obviously a special player, and she’s a straight-A student and a polite, young lady, too. I could see her being a lawyer 25 years from now, but whatever she does she will be a boss.” — Darren Eubanks

Did you know? Davis plans on majoring in pre-med in college. She said she would like to be a neurologist, specializing in helping people with nerve problems. … Davis’ hobbies include reading and cooking. Her favorite foods to cook are omelettes and pancakes, sometimes making her family breakfast for dinner. … Her favorite basketball player is her father Chris, an assistant coach at Red Oak and a former standout at Kimball and North Texas. He scored 2,254 points for North Texas and was inducted into the UNT Athletic Hall of Fame in 2008. He played professionally for over a decade, including four seasons for Fos Provence Basket in France. … Davis’ favorite foods are pasta and seafood, especially chicken alfredo, shrimp and crawfish.
