The Dallas Fort-Worth area boasts the best boys basketball teams in the state (and arguably the best talent in the nation). Just check the most recent Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Poll.
Leading the Houston, Austin and San Antonio areas, the metroplex claims 25 state-ranked UIL boys basketball teams across Class 4A, Class 5A and Class 6A. The Houston area possesses 14, while the Austin and San Antonio areas have five and nine ranked teams, respectively.
Three D-FW teams are top-ranked in the state within their respective classifications. In Class 6A, Plano East has not lost any of its 24 games this season. Lancaster is the No. 1 team in Class 5A. Fort Worth Eastern Hills tops the 4A state rankings.
The metroplex’s other state-ranked 6A schools include North Crowley, Allen, Mansfield Lake Ridge, Lewisville, South Grand Prairie, Keller and Waxahachie. Along with Lancaster, area 5A schools in W.T. White, Mansfield Summit, Frisco Lone Star, Argyle, Mansfield Timberview, The Colony and Frisco Heritage made the top 25 in the latest TABC poll.
Reigning Class 4A champion Faith Family Academy is the second best 4A team in the state, according to the poll. Other area 4A teams featured in the top 25 are Carter, Kennedale, Krum, Anna, Celina, Pinkston and Lincoln. Dallas Madison is the No. 2 team in the state for Class 3A.
Three D-FW boys basketball teams in Faith Family, Kimball and Lake Highlands won a state championship last season. Duncanville did not participate in the UIL postseason, but it did win a mythical national championship, thanks in part to five-star recruit Ron Holland. Now playing in the NBA G League, Holland was the Class of 2023′s No.2 player in the nation, according to 247Sports.
The Dallas-area claims the state’s top-ranked prospect in Carrollton Newman Smith’s Nic Codie, a four-star Texas pledge. Lake Highlands ex Tre Johnson, who transferred to Missouri’s Link Academy for his senior season, is the fourth-best player in the nation for the Class of 2024, according to 247 Sports. A five-star recruit, Johnson is also a Texas pledge.
Johnson and Codie were among the more than two dozen boys and girls basketball players from the Dallas area to be nominated for the 2024 All American games. Madison, Faith Family and Carter each had several nominees. State-ranked teams in Keller and North Crowley also boasted nominees that could potentially represent the metroplex on the national stage in April.
