Timberview had won 37 games in a row, was ranked No. 1 in the state and was No. 12 in the nation before it lost 60-51 to Frisco Liberty in this year’s Class 5A state championship game. That was the last of five state tournament appearances that Martin made in her career.
Martin also coached at Flower Mound Marcus, where she was 341-137 in 14 years, and for two seasons at Mont Belvieu Barbers Hill. She worked as an assistant coach for Hall of Fame coach Gary Blair at Arkansas and was a graduate assistant for Blair at Stephen F. Austin.
Martin was named the Wilson Sporting Goods/WBCA High School National Coach of the Year in 2019 and won 19 district championships and reached the regional tournament 11 times. She spent 33 years in public education.
