Preseason all-area team
Note: Oak Cliff Faith Family was not included after being banned from the playoffs by the UIL, which was announced Oct. 30. Legion Prep Academy was not included because the online school isn’t part of the UIL, TAPPS or SPC.
Jazman Bailey, Mansfield Lake Ridge: The four-star point guard is the top-rated sophomore in the area from a UIL public school and is the No. 25 recruit in the nation. She has announced offers from North Carolina, Alabama, Louisville and Texas A&M, among others. Playing in a district that included Class 6A state champion Duncanville and nationally ranked DeSoto (finished the regular season as the No. 1 team in Texas), Bailey averaged 15.6 points and was on the MaxPreps freshman All-American team. She scored 32 points against Waxahachie, hitting a game-tying 3-pointer at the end of regulation and the game-winning jumper at the buzzer in overtime in a 52-51 win, and she had 18 points against Duncanville.
Taylor Barnes, South Grand Prairie: The four-star Cal pledge has played on two Class 6A state runner-up teams — in 2022 and 2024. The all-state guard/forward is the No. 1 recruit in the Dallas area in the Class of 2025 and is rated the 70th-best player in the nation by ESPN’s HoopGurlz. Barnes averaged 14 points for the season and scored 25 against Southlake Carroll in a regional semifinal and 24 against San Antonio Brennan in a state semifinal.
Samari Holmen, Duncanville: The 5-8 guard helped Duncanville win the Class 6A state title last season, averaging 8 points, 4 assists and 2 steals as a freshman for a 35-4 team that finished the season on a 13-game winning streak. Holmen has offers from Arizona, Oklahoma and SMU and could play a huge role this season as Duncanville tries to win its 13th state championship.
Shiloh Kimpson, Little Elm: The senior point guard was a second-team all-area pick and the District 5-6A co-MVP after averaging 16.1 points. She is committed to Tulane and also had offers from Cornell, North Texas, Fresno State and Santa Clara, among others. Little Elm tied Denton Braswell for the district title last season and had wins over Braswell, state-ranked McKinney North, 5A state champion Frisco Liberty and TAPPS 6A state champion Bishop Lynch.
Amaya McDonald, Denton Braswell: The junior center has announced multiple Division I offers, including Temple, Wichita State and Southern Mississippi. She averaged 11.7 points and 9.3 rebounds and helped Braswell beat 2023 5A state runner-up Lubbock Cooper, 6A state-ranked Sachse, 5A state-ranked McKinney North and 5-6A co-champion Little Elm.
