Duncanville’s Kayden “Bugg” Edwards, who’s committed to TCU, is looking to return the basketball powerhouse to the top of the state.

Preseason all-area team

Kayden “Bugg” Edwards, Duncanville: Edwards, a 6-3 shooting guard, is a four-star prospect committed to TCU. He holds 15 offers with Texas, Mississippi State and USC being among them, according to 247Sports. During his junior year in 2023-24, Edwards averaged 22.1 points and 3.4 rebounds per game. He shot 36% from three for a 19-10 Duncanville team that finished 12-2 in District 11-6A. The senior picked up TABC All-State honors last season, when he scored more than 30 points in six games, and was the District 11-6A co-MVP. Edwards is the No. 7 player in Texas in the Class of 2025 and is the 12th-ranked shooting guard in the nation.

King Grace, Oak Cliff Faith Family: The 6-4 Mississippi State pledge helped Waxahachie to the regional quarterfinals last year, averaging 22 points, 2.1 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 1.5 steals as a junior. A four-star guard, Grace is Texas’s fifth-ranked player in the Class of 2025 and the nation’s No. 8 shooting guard. Grace, who transferred to Faith Family for his senior year, boasts 14 offers from schools including LSU, Cal and Houston. He earned first-team all-district and TABC All-State honors last season.

Dakari Spear, The Colony: Just a sophomore last year, Spear helped lead The Colony to the regional finals, where it lost 42-39 to eventual 5A state champion Lancaster. Spear finished with 12 points in that game and dropped 31 in a regional semifinal win over Longview. The four-star shooting guard is the No. 2 player in Texas in the Class of 2026. He holds 13 offers, with Alabama, Arizona State and LSU being among them. The 6-4 guard averaged 17.2 points, six rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.7 steals and a block last season, earning District 9-5A first team all-district and TABC 5A all-region honors.

DJ Hall, Plano East: Hall, a three-star Texas State commit, was a force for 40-0 Plano East, which won the 6A state title last season. The 6-7 forward scored a team-leading 18 points in Plano East’s 53-41 win over Round Rock Stony Point for the 6A state championship. Named the MVP of the state title game, Hall also had six boards and shot 54% from the field. The District 6-6A co-MVP averaged 15.7 points, 7 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.2 steals ahead of the state tournament. Now a senior, Hall is tasked with leading a new-look Plano East team after the graduation of several key contributors to last year’s championship run. He holds offers from at least nine schools, including Colorado State, Louisiana Tech and Texas A&M Corpus Christi.

Steven Ramirez, Keller: Last year, the Northern Colorado pledge played a pivotal role in Keller’s run to the regional finals, where it lost to eventual state champion Plano East. The 6-5 guard averaged 20 points, 7.5 rebounds, two steals and two assists per game as a junior last season. Ramirez is a three-star prospect who earned District 4-6A offensive player of the year and TABC 6A all-region honors for his performance in 2023-24 , when Keller won its third straight district title.
