HEWITT — Facing its swan song as a member of TAPPS, Trinity Christian-Cedar Hill wanted to make the most of Friday’s Division II state title game against Austin Regents.

And just like the last two years, that song remained the same as TC-Cedar Hill rushed for 261 yards and forced three turnovers in a 48-19 state title victory at Waco Midway’s Panther Stadium.

A big key to that final win came from a quick start that saw TC-Cedar Hill jump out to an early 14-0 lead, while the defense pushed back several promising drives by Austin Regents in the second and third quarters to keep them out of the end zone.

“We knew we had to start fast and get the advantage early,” said Trinity Christian-Cedar Hill coach Andre’ Hart. “Then our defense stepped up and made several big plays in the second half to help keep us ahead.”

The contest couldn’t have started any better, thanks to that aforementioned quick start, with both scoring drives being finished by Emari Matthews, scoring on runs of nine and seven yards, respectively.

Regents got on the board late in the opening quarter on a 4-yard scoring run by Trevor Tezak, with quarterback Wilson Long setting up the run with a 63-yard passing play.

TC-Cedar Hill maintained its 14-7 lead into the second quarter, with the defense helping out with a pair of fumble recoveries to stop Austin Regents drives.

However, TC-Cedar Hill could not take advantage, with Wilson leading a late drive to set up a 28-yard field goal as the first half ended to cut the lead to 14-10.

Regents further cut the lead to 14-13 early in the third quarter with a 29-yard field goal, but got no closer as TC-Cedar Hill scored the next 20 points to take a 34-13 lead to the fourth quarter.

Dez Moutrie, who finished 140 yards rushing, started the scoring run with a 40-yard touchdown run. Makii Lewis then scooped up a fumble of Regents next series for a 30-yard scoring return, with Shedeur Sanders adding a 4-yard touchdown throw to Elijah Yelverton.

TC-Cedar Hill kept the pressure on in the final quarter, with Sanders tossing touchdown passes of four and 29 yards to Amiri Crowder to cap its scoring.
