The Dodge Bowl: Riley’s Southlake Carroll to open 2020 season at AT&T Stadium vs. dad Todd’s Austin Westlake

The legendary father-son, coach-quarterback duo will share a field again.

Todd and Riley Dodge will share a field again.

But not as the father-son, coach-quarterback duo that won three state championships together from 2004-06 while Todd was the longtime Southlake Carroll coach and Riley was part of a strong quarterback pipeline.

Instead, the two will face off as head coaches in a marquee clash to open the 2020 season.

Riley grew up idolizing his dad’s Carroll players in the program he eventually became 2006 AP Class 5A Offensive Player of the Year and now leads as one of the state’s brightest young coaches. Todd since 2014 has worked at the school his late father-in-law, Ebbie Neptune, led to prominence.

The clash will likely mark one of the best games of the Texas high school football season, too.

In Riley’s first two seasons as head coach, Carroll has a 26-2 record and has twice reached the Class 6A Div. I regional finals. The Dragons will return quarterback Quinn Ewers -- the 2019 SportsDayHS Newcomer of the Year -- and 1,000-yard running back Owen Allen.

Westlake last season won the Class 6A Div. I state championship over Denton Guyer, the Chaps’ first title since 1996 and the first for Todd since he won four in his seven seasons (2000-06) at Carroll.
