Mims broke state and national records in football; Flickinger led Byron Nelson to its first volleyball state title.

A record-breaking wide receiver and a volleyball state champion from the Dallas area were named the best athletes in Texas for 2020 by MaxPreps.

Frisco Lone Star’s Marvin Mims, an Under Armour All-American who signed with Oklahoma, was named the state’s top male athlete. The four-star recruit broke state and national records for single-season receiving yards, finishing with 2,649, and he broke the state record for career receiving yards with 5,505.

Here is the play on which Mims broke the single-season state record, catching a 62-yard touchdown pass from Garret Rangel in a 38-20 win over Lancaster in the Class 5A Division I Region II final.
