Duncanville’s Kendrick Blackshire, the Dallas area’s top linebacker recruit, commits to Alabama

Four-star recruit missed all of last season with a torn ACL.

The Dallas area’s No. 1 linebacker recruit wants to play his college football at the school that has finished No. 1 in the nation more than any other team over the last decade.

Duncanville four-star recruit Kendrick Blackshire announced his commitment to Alabama on Tuesday night. Alabama has won four national championships in the last 10 years — twice as many titles as any other school — and the Crimson Tide has nine consecutive seasons of at least 11 wins, the longest streak in the poll era (since 1936).

Blackshire said on Twitter that he decided to commit Tuesday to honor his late grandmother’s birthday.

Blackshire missed all of last season with a torn ACL after transferring to Duncanville from Mesquite Horn. Blackshire (6-2, 250) is rated the seventh-best inside linebacker in the nation and the 26th-best overall recruit in Texas in the Class of 2021 by 247Sports, and he is No. 11 in SportsDay’s Area Top 100.

He was one of the state’s most sought-after recruits, holding 29 offers, and last week he told 247Sports that his three finalists were Alabama, defending national champion LSU and Texas A&M. He is the third linebacker to commit to Alabama for the Class of 2021, and all three are four-star recruits.

Alabama’s recruiting class is ranked No. 10 in the nation for the Class of 2021 by 247Sports. Of the school’s 12 commitments, two are from five-star recruits and seven are from four-star recruits.

Despite not having Blackshire last season, Duncanville finished as the Class 6A Division I state runner-up and allowed 9.8 points per game during a 15-1 season. This year, Duncanville’s defense will feature three Area Top 100 players — Blackshire, three-star safety Jadarius Thursby (committed to SMU) and three-star defensive lineman Kevon Ivy.
