Argyle wins 11th consecutive Lone Star Cup title, ties UIL record for most overall titles

Allen and Lovejoy earn Lone Star Cup runner-up finishes.

Argyle had dominated the Lone Star Cup standings over the last decade, showing that it was one of the most well-rounded schools in Texas.

Not even a move up in classification this year could change that.

Bolstered by state championships in film and academics, as well as in marching band, Argyle won its 11th consecutive Lone Star Cup title in its first year competing in Class 5A. Athletics played a big role too, as Argyle was the state runner-up in baseball, reached the state semifinals in football and had Meghna Arun Kumar win a 5A girls singles state title in spring tennis.

That gave Argyle 13 Lone Star Cup titles in all, tying Highland Park for the most in UIL history.

Baseball has long been a strength for Argyle, as this year was its sixth trip to the state tournament — all since 2014. During its run of 11 straight Lone Star Cup titles, Argyle has reached at least the fourth round of the football playoffs seven times, winning state championships in 2013 and 2020 and finishing as the state runner-up in 2014 and 2015.

The UIL Lone Star Cup program began during the 1997-98 school year and recognizes six high schools (one in each of the six UIL classifications) based on their overall team achievement in a variety of sanctioned academic, athletic and music championships. All UIL member high schools in good standing are included in contention for the UIL Lone Star Cup.
