After 15 years as UIL’s executive director, Dr. Charles Breithaupt is retiring.
Breithaupt announced during the UIL Legislative Council Meeting on Tuesday that he will retire after the 2024-25 school year.
Breithaupt, the seventh director in UIL’s history, was appointed to executive director in 2009 after previously serving associate director and director of athletics for the UIL. He first joined the league in June 1992 after 17 years of coaching in football, basketball, baseball, track and field and cross-country.
A graduate of Buna High School, Breithaupt garnered plenty of accolades during his coaching career as a state-champion at Hardin-Jefferson. He was inducted into the Texas High School Basketball Hall of Fame in 2003, the Southeast Texas Coaches Hall of Honor in 2001 and the Texas High School Coaches Hall of Honor in 2005..
