Duncanville five-star wide receiver Dakorien Moore commits to Oregon

Texas, LSU and Ohio State were the other finalists for Moore, the top-ranked receiver in the nation.

The No. 1 wide receiver in the nation provided some recruiting fireworks late on the Fourth of July.

Duncanville five-star receiver Dakorien Moore announced Thursday night on Instagram that he has committed to Oregon. Some recruiting experts had predicted that he would choose Texas.

He announced his choice by shooting off green and yellow fireworks.

According to the 247Sports composite rankings, Moore would be the highest-ranked recruit to sign with Oregon since at least 2002. Moore’s rating of .9990 is just ahead of the 0.9987 for former Oregon five-star defensive lineman Kayvon Thibodeaux, who is now with the New York Giants.

Moore’s other finalists were Texas, LSU and Ohio State. Moore had previously been committed to LSU for nine months before decommitting May 16.

Moore (5-11, 175) is the No. 1-ranked recruit in the Dallas area and in Texas for the Class of 2025, and he is rated the third-best player in the nation. His stats back up those rankings.

Moore was a MaxPreps first-team junior All-American last season after he had 71 receptions for 1,523 yards and 18 touchdowns as Duncanville won its second straight Class 6A Division I state title. Moore averaged 21.5 yards per catch and led area 6A players in receiving yards and receiving touchdowns as Duncanville reached a state championship game for the third straight year that Moore has been on the varsity.

Moore picked an Oregon program that is moving to the Big Ten next season and that has the nation’s fifth-ranked recruiting class for 2025. The school has had 14 players selected in the NFL draft the last two years, including a program-record eight in 2024.

Oregon had one advantage, as its assistant head coach and running backs coach is Ra’Shaad Samples. He is the son of Duncanville head coach Reginald Samples.

Oregon just lost star receiver Troy Franklin to the NFL, but it has added former Frisco Liberty five-star receiver Evan Stewart. Stewart, who played at Texas A&M the last two years, was the nation’s second-ranked receiver in the Class of 2022. Oregon also has a commitment from four-star recruit Dallas Wilson, the nation’s fifth-ranked receiver in the Class of 2025.

Moore turned down a Texas program that has a pair of five-star recruits at quarterback in former Southlake Carroll star Quinn Ewers and Arch Manning. UT’s talent-rich receiver room includes former Dallas-area stars Johntay Cook II from DeSoto and Parker Livingstone from Lovejoy.

Oregon is getting one of the fastest football players in America.

Moore ran on Duncanville’s 4x200-meter relay team that broke the high school national record and won the Class 6A state title in 1:22.25 this past season. He was also on Duncanville’s state runner-up 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams, with the 4x100 running 39.47 — the fourth-fastest time in national history.

Whether Moore runs track for Duncanville next spring remains to be seen. He said after the state meet that he is contemplating graduating after next football season so he can start college early.

Moore has 130 catches for 2,653 yards and 29 touchdowns in his first three seasons at Duncanville, averaging 20.4 yards per catch and a touchdown once every 4.5 receptions in his career. Expect another big season his senior year, as he will once again have four-star Alabama pledge Keelon Russell throwing to him.
