Trinity breakdown

Setting the scene: Trinity’s Josh Bell leads the team’s vaunted rushing attack. The UTEP pledge has rushed for 267 yards on 34 carries (7.85 yards per carry). Bell’s eight rushing touchdowns are tied for the most among area 6A teams. Trinity has scored at least 49 points in every game this season while allowing more than 30 points only once. But the Trinity defense has allowed over 180 yards rushing twice this season, which the Dragons might look to exploit.

Key to victory: Trinity last defeated Carroll during the 2017 season and will look to use its rushing attack to open up quarterback TJ Tupou’s dual-threat ability. He has thrown for 448 yards, averaging 17.2 yards per completion, with five touchdowns and no interceptions, and has added 109 yards on the ground. Tupou relies on an explosive receiving corps led by Antwan McGee and Ethan Wright. Both average over 14 yards per reception, punishing defenses that focus on stopping the run.

Statistical leaders: Passing — Tupou, 26-of-37 for 446 and five TDs; rushing — Josh Bell, 34-267 and eight TDs; receiving — Antwan McGee, 7-176 and one TD.

Carroll breakdown

Setting the scene: Carroll is one of the most balanced offenses in the Dallas area. The Dragons have 656 rushing yards and 652 passing yards this season, which gives them the 11th-ranked total offense among area 6A teams. The running back tandem of USC pledge Riley Wormley and Baylor pledge Davis Penn have combined to run for 537 yards and nine touchdowns. Both runners have rushed for three or more touchdowns while staying over six yards per carry. Quarterback Angelo Renda has seven passing touchdowns to only one interception this season.

Key to victory: Carroll has scored 35 points by halftime in two of its first three games this season and must continue that against Trinity. Of 6A area passers who have at least 10 attempts, Renda has the highest completion percentage (76%). He has also contributed 49 rushing yards and two touchdowns this season.

Statistical leaders: Passing — Renda, 41-of-54 for 600, seven TDs; rushing — Riley Wormley, 36-329, six TDs; receiving — Brock Boyd, 16-198, four TDs.
