Lovejoy QB Jacob Janecek

What he did: Janecek accounted for 421 total yards and eight touchdowns as Lovejoy, ranked No. 14 in The Dallas Morning News’ Class 5A area poll, edged No. 11 Anna 66-62 on Friday in a District 4-5A-II game at Coyote Stadium in Anna. The stats: Janecek was 15 for 24 passing for 298 yards and six touchdowns with no interceptions. His longest touchdown pass was 75 yards to Zane Kuzenski to give Lovejoy a 42-20 lead with 7:14 left in the second quarter. Who is he? A 6-foot, 185-pound junior quarterback. Janecek is 68 for 105 passing for 956 yards and 16 touchdowns with two interceptions this season. He has rushed for a team-high 269 yards on 35 carries with three touchdowns. Janecek passed for 74 yards in 2023, backing up Alexander “Hondo” Franklin, who currently plays for Trinity University. He has helped Lovejoy compile a 2-2 record, 2-0 in 4-5A-II heading into a bye week before its next game against Melissa on Oct. 4. He is leading the offense in Lovejoy’s first season under seven-time state champion coach Todd Dodge. Janecek also runs the 100 and 200 meters for Lovejoy track and field. He has received recruiting interest from Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Stephen F. Austin and North Texas.

He said it: “My favorite play was the last touchdown. We saw that we had man-to-man coverage. I knew that Day Day [McCutcheon] would beat his guy and we were going to win. When I saw that it was man-to-man before the snap I knew we got this. We just had to execute. … I’m blessed that the coaches believe in me to put the ball in my hands. Very blessed. … We have been successful on offense because we are 50-50 on run-pass and you never know what we’ll do. We work on precision on our plays over and over and over. We are also precise because we watch a lot of film. There’s a lot more attention to detail than what there used to be.”

Coach said it: “My favorite play on what Jacob did was the long pass to Zane Kuzenski in the second. It was a play-action play and he did a great job selling the run that made the cornerback and safety come up. His pass was right on the money too. … Jacob is very intelligent and he’s got a really good skill set. Of the quarterbacks I have coached he reminds me the most of Sam Ehlinger.” – Lovejoy coach Todd Dodge.

Did you know? Janecek started playing football and quarterback when he was in the first grade in the Frisco Football League, moving to tackle football in the second grade. Janecek and his family moved to Lucas before his freshman year. … His favorite high-school course is math, especially algebra and geometry. … When he’s finished playing football Janecek plans on entering construction to design either residential houses and/or commercial buildings. … His favorite meal is filet mignon (medium rare) with a baked potato (bacon, cheese and butter) and macaroni and cheese with an extra large Dr Pepper. … Janecek’s favorite athlete is Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen because Allen’s playing style reminds Janecek of himself, especially in the passing game.
