‘It’s pretty amazing’: How video, data technology is changing Texas high school football

MANSFIELD — Mansfield has trailed at halftime in three of its first four games, but the scene in the locker room during the intermission illustrates why the school has started 4-0 for the third straight season.

The defense gathers as a unit during halftime, and coaches use a mini projector to show plays and formations from the first half on a wall while discussing adjustments that need to be made. Offensive players break off with their position coaches and use iPads to review first-half video that was compiled from three camera angles, and it has led to Mansfield outscoring the opposition 76-23 in the second half in its three comeback wins.

“It’s pretty amazing,” Mansfield assistant coach Brian Boydstun said. “Most of the time when you’re coaching, you see things, but you don’t see it all. Now, you see it all. You can see it play by play.”
