North Forney QB Legend Bey

What he did: Bey accounted for 316 total yards and all five touchdowns as unranked North Forney upset Forney – ranked No. 11 in The Dallas Morning News’ Class 6A area poll — 35-31 in a District 10-6A game Friday at City Bank Stadium in Forney. Bey’s 7-yard touchdown run with 3:21 remaining was the winning score.

The stats: Bey had 23 rushing attempts for 198 yards and three touchdowns going for 5, 8 and 7 yards. Bey was 5 for 10 passing for 118 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions. Eli Otieno had all five North Forney receptions, opening the scoring on a 31-yard pass on a fourth-and-4 play with 6:15 left in the first quarter.

Who is he? A 5-11, 185-pound junior quarterback. Bey has rushed for 663 yards on 63 carries (an average of 10.5 yards) and 12 touchdowns. He is 35 for 66 passing for three touchdowns and four interceptions this season. He has helped North Forney to a 3-2 record, 1-0 in District 10-6A heading into this Friday’s game against Tyler Legacy, which will be the inaugural game at North Forney’s Better Life Stadium. Bey transferred to North Forney from Mesquite Horn this past spring. Bey accounted for 1,405 yards and 15 touchdowns for a 5-5 Horn team in 2023. Bey is receiving recruiting interest from 17 college programs including Oregon, Missouri, Oklahoma, TCU, Texas Tech and Baylor.

He said it: “I’ll remember the first rushing touchdown I had in the second half. They had just got a kickoff return for a touchdown and we needed to respond. … I’m better at throwing the ball since I’ve been here. I’ve worked really hard in the offseason to be better at it.”

Coach said it: “What impressed me most about Legend against Forney was the way he kept his composure, because there were a lot of highs and lows in the game. … What he has improved on most is his accuracy throwing the ball, short and long passes, and his decision making. Coach [Charles] Hitchens has done a great job in making Legend more accurate. Legend’s accuracy comes from improving his mechanics.” – North Forney coach Marcus Shavers.

Did you know? Bey started playing quarterback when he was 6 years old and living in Chicago playing for a team called the Hurricanes. He attended Frisco Reedy and Frisco Lone Star his freshman year. Bey said the football is better and people are nicer in Texas compared to Illinois, but the food is better in Chicago, especially the pasta. … Bey runs the 100 meters and 4x100 relay in track and field. … Bey’s favorite course in school is math, especially algebra. … Bey plans on majoring in mechanical engineering. After football, he would like to work with military fighter jets. … Bey’s favorite meal is soft-shell beef tacos (cheese and sour cream) with yellow rice and lemonade. … Bey’s favorite athlete is Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson in part because Jackson proved people wrong with his passing ability.
