DENTON -- Landon Farris rushed for 104 yards and two touchdowns to lead Argyle, the AP poll’s top-ranked team in Class 5A Division II, to a 38-0 victory over Denton at C.H. Collins Athletic Complex.

The game had an unusual start. Argyle’s Dax Horany returned the opening kickoff to the Argyle 41-yard line. On the next play, which followed a 30-minute lightning delay, Farris bolted 59 yards for the first of his two touchdowns.

Quick-strike drives were the theme of the first half for Argyle, (9-0, 5-0 District 3-5A Div II). Their next scoring drive was also just one play—a 3-yard run by RJ Bunnell set up by a 26-yard loss on an attempted Denton (4-5, 2-3) punt. Argyle’s next scoring drive consisted of two plays—both passes from John Gailey and Will Hodson, first for a 15-yard gain, next for a 50-yard score to give Argyle a 21-0 lead. Bunnell finished with 84 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

Argyle’s defense held Denton to 82 total yards as they clinched the top seed in the forthcoming playoffs. Denton’s Coco Brown entered the game as the area’s Class 5A rushing leader with 1,653 yards but Argyle’s defense limited him to 12 yards on 13 carries in the first half. Brown did not play in the second half.

Argyle clinches the No. 1 seed in 3-5A Div. II with the win.
