RICHARDSON - Ryan Williams scored on a 14-yard run in overtime as Richard Pearce (2-4, 2-2) upset Irving MacArthur in a thrilling, see-saw, District 7-6A game at Eagle-Mustang Stadium.
Ryan’s touchdown capped a 155-yard rushing effort that included a 57-yard scoring scamper. Presley Harper passed for 299 yards and three touchdowns including a 14-yard score to Caden Varner on fourth down that tied the game at 49-49 with 2:09 left to play.
MacArthur’s Glendon Willis passed for 390 yards and six touchdowns. Five of those scores went to Jerbrandin Henderson. He caught touchdowns of 53, 95, 34, 47 and 20 yards as part of his 275 total receiving yards. Darelle Smith led MacArthur’s ground game, rushing for 134 yards, including a 59-yard score. He had what appeared to be a game-deciding 38-yard touchdown nullified by a holding penalty in the final minute of the fourth quarter.
This game had eight lead changes, and the score was tied twice. Pearce jumped out to a 13-0 first quarter lead after their defense recovered a fumble and intercepted a pass on MacArthur’s first two possessions. From there, the teams traded touchdowns the rest of the game as both defenses could only combine for three stops. Pearce was able to hold MacArthur on its overtime possession when they recovered a fumble on their 5 yard line. The loss was the first for MacArthur (3-2, 2-1) and knocked them out of a tie for first place in the district.
