ARLINGTON – Armand Cleaver ran for 91 yards and two touchdowns and Tyrique Womack accounted for 222 yards of offense to lead Mesquite past Arlington Lamar 26-15 on Friday night in non-district play.
Cleaver’s 10-yard score with 1:20 left in the second quarter proved to be the go-ahead score.
All of the game’s touchdowns were scored in the first half as both teams clamped down in the final 24 minutes. Mesquite (2-2), however, added a third-quarter safety and fourth-quarter field goal to create some breathing room.
Mesquite outgained Lamar (1-3) 368-226 but turned the ball over three times to Lamar’s one. Lamar’s Robert Brown ran for 125 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries.
