ROCKWALL -- Rockwall-Heath got off to a hot start, putting up 21 unanswered points in the first half on its way to a 35-7 win over Mesquite.
Quarterback Caleb Hoover connected on a 13-yard touchdown to Peyton Wingfield to put up the game's first points. Wingfield was Hoover's favorite target, tallying 14 yards per catch. Hoover threw 17-for-31 with one touchdown and one interception for Heath (4-2, 1-1 District 10-6A).
Heath's Brittan Snider scored on a 54-yard touchdown run on his way to 124 yards rushing. Jack Davenport contributed two short-yardage rushing touchdowns in the game while adding 66 yards on 12 carries.
Mesquite (3-3, 1-1) got on the board with 29 second left in the first half: Armand Cleaver, Mesquite's primary running back, took it in from one yard out after a costly pass interference penalty set up a short second-and-goal situation.
Mesquite also threatened from the 1-yard line midway through the third quarter, but Heath's defense held on fourth down to stop the drive.
