ROCKWALL — Ashten Emory rushed for 196 yards and a touchdown as Rockwall clinched the top seed in District 10-6A with a 22-0 win over Mesquite on Friday at Wilkerson-Sanders Memorial Stadium.
A second-quarter scoring burst gave Rockwall control of the contest as it dominated the ground game to the tune of 345 rushing yards. A 54-yard rushing score from Emory broke a scoreless tie with 8:57 remaining in the second quarter.
Brendon Ross set Rockwall (8-1, 5-0) up to score on the ensuing series after he recovered a Mesquite fumble and returned it 57 yards to the Mesquite 8 yard line. Three plays later, Parker Williams scored on a six-yard run to make it 14-0 with 2:07 remaining before half.
Although Rockwall scored five points in the second half, its defense held firm to limit Mesquite (4-6, 2-4) to 100 total yards while making it difficult to sustain long drives.
Tyrique Womack led the Mesquite offense with 48 yards of total offense.
