WEATHERFORD — Weatherford’s running back duo of Ryan Clark and Joseph Polk combined for 276 yards rushing on 27 attempts to lead the Kangaroos to a season-opening, 38-14 home victory over Keller Central Friday night at Kangaroo Stadium.

Clark, who scored on runs of 8 and 56 yards, carried 10 times for 164 yards while Polk finished with 112 yards rushing on 17 carries. Polk found the end zone on runs of five and 21 yards.

Weatherford finished with 297 yards rushing on 42 carries. Weatherford quarterback C.J. Thornton completed 15 of 23 passes for 166 including a six-yard scoring toss to Isaiah King. Britton Burrows led Weatherford in receiving with three catches for 46 yards.

Keller Central had a tough time moving the ball against Weatherford's defense. Keller Central managed 158 yards on 43 plays for the night. Keller Central trailed 21-14 at halftime thanks to a 55-yard interception return by Zach Yang and a one-yard touchdown run from Chase Garnett. For the game, Garnett carried 14 times for 36 yards.
