CORINTH –– Lake Dallas wide receiver Niki Gray caught six passes for 123 yards and two touchdowns as the Falcons bested Frisco Centennial 29-23 at home Friday night.
Titans running back Harry Stewart led off the game with a 99-yard kick return for the only Centennial (1-1) touchdown of the first half. Following a field goal and a defensive stand, Lake Dallas (2-0) took the lead as Cade Bortnem found Gray on a 45-yard pass-and-run for a touchdown. Gray and Bortnem connected again for a 17-yard touchdown before the end of the first half to extend Falcons' lead to 17-7 at the break.
The Titans mounted a comeback in the third quarter after a Lake Dallas field goal opened the scoring in the second half. Stewart's second touchdown of the game made it 20-14 with seven minutes remaining in the third quarter. A connection from Centennial quarterback Naman Goyal to to Brett Esckilden gave the Titans their second and last lead of the game.
Bortnem connected with Keondre Henry on a 47-yard touchdown to give the Falcons the lead to end the third quarter. However, a blocked return on the PAT by Tyler Raymond kept Centennial within field goal range heading into the final quarter.
A Lake Dallas field goal with four minutes remaining in the game was the only score for either team in the fourth quarter as the Falcons held on for the 29-23 win. Stewart finished with 102 rushing yards and two touchdowns in the loss.
