FRISCO-Adrian Baston and Jayden Jones combined for 258 rushing yards and to score all five touchdowns for Corsicana in a 38-28 win against Frisco Liberty on Thursday at David Kuykendall Stadium.
Corsicana (1-0), playing its first game under new head coach Aric Sardinea, found the end zone on four of its eight first-half possessions and led 28-7 at halftime.
Frisco Liberty (0-1) broke the shutout late in the opening half when senior quarterback Will Jackson and senior wide receiver Davion Dixon connected on a 50-yard pass play 3:24 before halftime.
In the second half, Liberty outgained Corsicana 334-200, outscored them 20-10 and got as close as 10 points, but their bid for a comeback win fell short. Dixon caught 3 passes for 69 yards and 2 touchdowns while Jackson threw for 271 yards and 2 touchdowns with 1 interception. Jackson also rushed for 75 yards and another score.
Sardinea, who was hired April 11 after previous coach Hal Wasson announced his retirement in March, had spent the previous six seasons at Alief Elsik, a Class 6A school near Houston. Corsicana also got a 27-yard field goal from Joe Morales in the second half.
