GREENVILLE – Quarterback Micah Simpson ran for 434 yards and six touchdowns as Greenville defeated Frisco Liberty 42-31 at T.A. Cotton Ford Stadium.
Simpson had 230 yards and four touchdowns in the first half of a battle of quarterbacks.
In the first half, Liberty quarterback Will Jackson ran for two TDs and a two-point conversion and threw a scoring pass to freshman Amarean Porter. Jackson had a combined 219 yards rushing and passing before halftime. He finished with 347 yards rushing and passing.
Liberty (0-2) took its only lead at 31-28 on a 30-yard field goal in the third quarter.
On the next play from scrimmage, Simpson bolted 76 yards to give Greenville (1-1) a lead it didn’t let go.
Simpson passed just three times, completing one for no gain.
In the final minute, Greenville had the ball on Liberty’s 4 yard line. From there, Simpson took a knee as the clock ran out.
