DENTON – Notre Dame pledge Peyton Bowen returned three punts for 139 yards including a 68-yard score and set up another Denton Guyer touchdown with an impressive 45-yard return while leading Guyer to a 56-7 victory over McKinney Boyd at C.H. Collins Complex. Bowen's punt return touchdown was his second in as many weeks.
Guyer’s special teams and defense derailed Boyd’s short-lived momentum after Ryan Shackleton connected with Tyler Wall on a 15-yard score to cut Guyer’s early lead to 21-7. Boyd was then on the verge of forcing Guyer to punt for the second consecutive series when Landon Sides raced 16 yards with a fake punt to the Boyd 44-yard line to convert a first down. Four plays later, Ahmed Yussef scored the first of his two touchdowns from 5-yards out to make it 28-7.
Guyer (6-0, 3-0 District 5-6A) then forced a three-and-out leading to Bowen’s touchdown. On the first play of Boyd’s next possession, Guyer’s Caleb Darthard returned a fumble 30 yards for Guyer’s third touchdown in less than three minutes as they built an insurmountable 42-7 lead.
Guyer, the No. 1 ranked team in the Dallas Morning News area 6A rankings, held Boyd (0-5, 0-2) to 93 total yards.
