IRVING – Glendon Casas Willis passed for 371 yards and five touchdowns on 10 of 14 completions as MacArthur beat rival Nimitz, 66-40, in the District 7-6A opener Friday night at Joy & Ralph Ellis Stadium.

Casas Willis threw for 310 yards and five touchdowns in the first half. His 31-yard touchdown with 8:55 left in the second quarter gave the Cardinals a 42-7 lead. He connected with Darelle Smith for 67-yard touchdown on the first play from scrimmage. Casas Willis hit Tyler Littleton on MacArthur’s second snap for a 57-yard score. With 5:39 to go in the opening quarter, he found Jerbrandin Henderson for a 73-yard TD on his third pass attempt.

Smith rushed for 98 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries as the Cardinals (2-1, 1-0 7-6A) piled up 583 yards in total offense. Smith’s 6-yard TD run with 6:10 to play in the third quarter gave MacArthur a 50-14 lead.

Nimitz quarterback Pedro Maldonado passed for 270 yards and two touchdowns on 13 of 29 completions. He ran for 68 yards and two scores. Maldonado’s 8-yard run with 11:34 left pulled the Vikings (0-3, 0-1) within 57-34.

Despite recovering a couple on-side kicks, Nimitz could not complete the comeback as Smith dashed 34 yards for a score, spinning out of a tackle, bracing himself inside the 5-yard line, and lunged forward for a backbreaking score.

Nimitz’s Christopher Hernandez had six receptions for 183 yards and two scores, including a 34-yard TD with 6:39 to play.
