GRAND PRAIRIE - AJ Newberry gained 176 yards rushing with two touchdowns as South Grand Prairie (1-5, 1-1 District 8-6A) shut out Arlington Sam Houston (0-6, 0-2) 41-0 in a matchup at the Gopher-Warrior Bowl.

Newberry opened the scoring with a 60-yard touchdown run midway through the first quarter. Jaden Stanley followed up with two touchdown passes during the second. Julian Stratford took a screen pass from Stanley and scored on a 24-yard touchdown reception.

Matthew Ramirez pulled in a 24-yard scoring throw from Stanley. Zach Thomas’ 29-yard field goal pushed South Grand Prairie’s lead to 24-0 at halftime.

Newberry put the game out of reach on the opening play of the third quarter when he broke loose for a 56-yard touchdown run. Austin DeLay wrapped up the scoring with a three-yard touchdown run in the fourth.

South Grand Prairie finished with 468 yards total offense while limiting Sam Houston to 218 yards. Andre Saulsbury finished the night with 100 yards passing.
