JUSTIN - After falling behind early, Jake Strong threw for three scores and Kyle Cummings added four more on the ground, as Justin Northwest scored 58 unanswered points to defeat Azle 58-7, Friday night at Northwest ISD Stadium.

Northwest (3-2, 2-1, 3-5A Div. I) finished with over 730 yards of total offense, 441 coming on the ground from Cummings 188 and Ife Durodoye’s 236.

Azle (1-5, 1-2, 3-5A Div 1) scored first on a Cale Cohen 17-yard rush, before Strong and the offense responded with touchdown throws to Joseph Rivas and Kenan Reil, for 48 and 34 yards, respectively.

Cummings’ two short rushing scores in the second quarter and Trayton Greer’s 39-yard field goal gave Northwest a 30-7 half time lead. Cummings added two more rushing scores in the third quarter before Strong hit Cooper McComas on an 8-yard strike, giving Northwest a 51-7 lead after three quarters of play.

In the fourth, the quarters’ only score was a 20-yard rush by Durodoye. On the receiving side of the ball, for Northwest, Reil finished with 102 yards and Rivas finished with 81.

In the loss, Azle’s Hagen Hughes rushed for 69 yards, while receiver Gavin Green caught nine passes for 95 yards.
