Ineligible player issue at Irving Nimitz changes 7-6A playoff seeding in girls soccer

Irving MacArthur drops from third into tie for fourth and now will play Richardson in tiebreaker for final playoff spot.

The Irving MacArthur girls soccer team thought it was safely in the playoffs as the No. 3 seed from District 7-6A, and it was scheduled to face Arlington Martin in the first round next Tuesday.

But an ineligible player issue at Irving Nimitz has changed the standings in 7-6A and will force MacArthur to play a tiebreaker game Saturday just to make the postseason.

MacArthur coach Eric Alonzo said Friday that Nimitz — which was going to miss the playoffs anyway — was found to have played an ineligible player and was forced to forfeit all of its district wins. That moved Richardson Pearce from fourth to third and dropped MacArthur into a tie with Richardson for fourth place.

MacArthur and Richardson will play at 10 a.m. Saturday at Richardson, with the winner advancing to play 8-6A champion Arlington High at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Coppell. Pearce, which was originally going to play Arlington High in the first round, will instead face Arlington Martin at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Pennington Field.
