Final volleyball rankings (10/27): Martin, Highland Park finish No. 1 thanks to long win streaks

No. 2 Flower Mound finishes in 3-way tie for 6-6A title; No. 3 Guyer wraps up 5-6A title.

Arlington Martin finishes the regular season as the No. 1 Class 6A team in the area — and on a 31-match winning streak. Martin hasn’t lost since Aug. 14, when it dropped matches to Rockwall and Frisco Reedy.

Martin, ranked No. 2 in the state in Class 6A, has been so dominant that it has dropped only five sets during its winning streak. The streak includes wins over five state-ranked teams — Austin Lake Travis, San Antonio Clark, San Antonio O’Connor, Flower Mound Marcus and Keller.

Flower Mound lost two of its last three regular-season matches, falling to Flower Mound Marcus and Plano West in five sets apiece. That left Flower Mound in a three-way tie for the district title with Marcus and Plano West.

Flower Mound, which ended up getting the top seed for the playoffs from District 6-6A, finished No. 2 in the area rankings because of its overall body of work. It has 12 wins over teams in the current TGCA state rankings, including Pearland Dawson (No. 3 in 6A), Highland Park (No. 1 in 5A) and Lovejoy (No. 4 in 5A), and it beat nationally ranked Mater Dei (Calif.).
