As Kim DeShay, Andrew Jackson and Sherrill Phillips sat down to lunch at The Bridge Homeless Recovery Center in Dallas on Thursday, they joined hundreds of others eating a donated meal on National Hunger Awareness Day.

To help fight hunger as homelessness rises in Dallas, The Bridge launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise $50,000 from the community to pay for 18,000 meals.

The Bridge currently serves an average of 1,000 meals to 650 people per day.
