Updated at 6 p.m.: Revised to include the cyclist's name.
A man died Saturday after he hit a tree while riding his bicycle at River Legacy Park in Arlington, officials say.
Paramedics were called about 11:30 a.m. to a report of an unconscious person on a bike trail in the park near Northwest Green Oaks Boulevard and North Cooper Street.
The 63-year-old man appeared to have fallen off his bike and may have been impaled by a tree branch or small log, Arlington Fire Department spokesman Mike Joiner said.
Bystanders were performing CPR on the man when first responders arrived, he said.
The man was identified as Terry L. Eason of Mansfield, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner's office.
Eason was taken out of the park shortly after noon, Joiner said. He was brought to Texas Health Arlington Memorial, where he died.
The park, which is frequented by cyclists, features paved hike-and-bike paths and about 10 miles of mountain biking trails.
