McKinney fourth on list of fastest-growing large cities in the United States

Frisco topped the list, but McKinney’s population jumped 51.9% by adding 68,025 residents between 2010 and 2019.

Feel like McKinney has gotten a bit more crowded over the past few years? Well, you’re right.

McKinney is fourth on a list of fastest-growing large cities in the United States, according to data released this month by the United States Census Bureau.

The study looked at cities whose population was 50,000 or more on April 1, 2010 and analyzed their growth up to June 1, 2019.

McKinney’s 2010 population was at 131,152 before adding 68,025 residents over the last decade to reach its current population.

The Census Bureau noted big jumps in cities in both the south and the west. Texas in particular has seen growth in a number of cities.

The five biggest cities in the state — Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Austin and Fort Worth — collectively increased by almost 933,600 people.

But suburbs and other cities are growing, too. Leander, north of Austin, saw the largest growth of any large city in the U.S. from 2018 to 2019, and 13 cities in Texas saw at least 50% growth from 2010 until 2019.
