Plano announced this week that a mosquito sample taken in the city tested positive for West Nile virus.
Crews from the city’s environmental quality division planned to spray the area near where the sample was taken on Tuesday night. The targeted area is bordered by the following streets:
- North – Janwood Drive
- South – West Plano Parkway/ Bramante Drive
- East – Alma Drive
- West – Westwood Drive
There have been no positive human tests for West Nile Virus in Plano, and there is no information to suggest that COVID-19 and other similar coronaviruses are spread by mosquitoes or ticks, the city cautioned in its press release.
Residents are advised to follow common mosquito prevention practices. That includes draining standing water in and around your home and neighborhood, wearing long-sleeved shirts and pants and using insect repellent.
