Frisco to close vaccine hub next week as vaccine rollout progresses

Residents can still schedule an appointment at local vaccine providers, including Costco, CVS, Kroger, Tom Thumb, Wal-Mart, and Walgreens.

Frisco announced that it will close its major vaccination hub next week as vaccines become more readily available at local grocery stores, convenience stores and pharmacies.

Ahead of the closing, the city is no longer accepting appointments for North Texans to receive their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. For the next week, it will only administer second doses to those who scheduled an appointment after receiving their first at the vaccine hub.

The hub first opened on Feb. 2 with 7,500 vaccines, which it administered in four days before having to temporarily close, as it awaited a new shipment.

Tens of thousands of Frisco and Collin County residents have received their vaccinations at the hub over the last two months, according to the city.

Residents will still be able to schedule an appointment with other local vaccine providers, including Costco, CVS, Kroger, Tom Thumb, Wal-Mart and Walgreens.

Frisco’s decision is in line with that of other local cities, such as Allen and McKinney, which are also closing their vaccine hubs as the vaccine has become more widely available at traditional vaccine providers, such as pharmacies.
