Which lakes in Dallas-Fort Worth will stay open this stormy Memorial Day weekend?

Some parks on the water have already announced closures because of recent rains.

Storms across Dallas-Fort Worth over Memorial Day weekend may keep swimmers and boaters out of the water as some lakes have already restricted access because of flooding and chances for rain and wind.

The National Weather Service said rain is most likely to fall overnight across North Texas through Tuesday, though there’s a chance of storms each day.

Some parks already announced closures. Here’s what we know about weekend visitor access at some popular Memorial Day lakes in the area.

Benbrook Lake

The parks, campgrounds and boat ramps near Benbrook Lake were closed Thursday until further notice because the water rose about 15 feet above its normal elevation level, according to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Joe Pool Lake

The boat ramps at Lynn Creek, Loyd and Britton parks near Joe Pool Lake were closed Thursday until further notice because of unsafe flooding conditions.

Grand Prairie officials said the boat ramp at the Lynn Creek Marina will be closed once water reaches a certain elevation, but boat slips there will “remain open as long as accessible.”

Loyd Park camping will stay open for sites not affected by rising water, Grand Prairie officials said, noting that the situation was being evaluated daily and the parks will “reopen as soon as safely possible.”

Lake Arlington

Lake Arlington should stay open through Memorial Day weekend, unless the rain makes for unsafe conditions, according to Jaime Ramirez, a customer service representative for the City of Arlington.

Bowman Springs Park, with its fishing pier, floating dock and eight-lane boat ramp, and Richard Simpson Park should also stay open, Ramirez said.

Lake Grapevine

The Knob Hills Trail was listed as fully open, but Murrell Park has been partially closed because of flooding, according to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers website.

Murrell’s low water boat ramp, picnic area and camping sites 1 to 8 were closed, as was the eastern half of the park. The high water boat ramp was listed as open.

Lake Ray Hubbard

Lake Ray Hubbard should be open for use through Memorial Day weekend, unless the rain makes for unsafe conditions, according to Alejandra Barrios, a Garland Parks Administration representative.

Windsurf Bay Park will open Friday, but access is limited to 2,500 people. It was unclear whether other parks on the lake will remain open.

Lake Ray Roberts

Lake Ray Roberts should be open for use through Memorial Day weekend.

Lauren Whisenhunt, a spokeswoman for the Lake Ray Roberts Marina, said there weren’t any public notices about closures or flooding from the storms by Friday afternoon.

Lake Lewisville

Lewisville Lake Park and the lake’s public boat ramps were temporarily closed Thursday due to rising water levels. Access was expected to remain restricted through the weekend.

The campgrounds, fishing barge and Lake Park Golf Course remain at least partially open, so people should still be able to walk around the park and fish off the shore, according to KXAS-TV (NBC5).

Lavon Lake

Bratonia Park, the Brockdale Boat Ramp, East Fork Park, Elm Creek Park, Highland Park, the Stilling Basin Access Point and Twin Groves Park should be open for Memorial Day weekend, according to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers website.

Boat ramps should be open at Avalon Park, Clear Lake Park, Lavonia Park and Mallard Park, but campgrounds and day use may be restricted.

Caddo Park, Lakeland Park, Little Avalon and Pebble Beach Park were listed on the website as fully closed due to maintenance. The Tickey Creek Park courtesy deck was also listed as closed.

White Rock Lake

White Rock Lake hadn’t seen flooding and is set to stay open through the weekend, according to Jennifer Hoesterey, a spokesperson for White Rock Lake Conservancy.

Hoesterey said she hadn’t heard of any trail closures or storm damage near the lake, so the park should be available for visitors this Memorial Day weekend.
