DeSoto council members hosting community cleanup events for National Day of Service

There will be two locations where people can help clean up their community with supplies being provided.

DeSoto council members, Place 6 Crystal Chism and Place 7 Letitia Hughes, are hosting community cleanup efforts at two locations in the city to commemorate the National Day of Service.

The cleanups will be held Saturday, Sept. 11 from 8 to 10 a.m. Those interested in helping can meet near the intersections of Cockrell Hill and Belt Line roads (the old Albertsons) or Hampton and Wintergreen roads (the 7-Eleven) to participate, according to a post on Facebook. Supplies will be provided.

The National Day of Service was created shortly after the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks to provide people with an opportunity to help their communities in memory of first responders and people who lost their lives that day.
