Black Rifle Coffee Company coming soon in Plano

The veteran-owned company is known for its right-leaning views and support of veterans.

A Black Rifle Coffee Company coffee shop is under construction at 901 N. Central Expressway.

The company’s website indicates its Plano shop is opening on Dec. 4. The store has also not yet posted a phone number. A TGI Friday’s restaurant formerly occupied the location.

“Black Rifle Coffee Company was founded to make great coffee for people who work hard and love America,” founder and CEO Evan Hafer, a former Green Beret, said in a news release that accompanied the June opening of its North Richland Hills store. “Those are values that are fundamental for Texans; that’s why we’ve made this our home.”

The company made national news last year after a reporter from Irving-based media company, The Blaze, tweeted an image of alleged Wisconsin shooter Kyle Rittenhouse wearing a Black Rifle Coffee shirt.

The photo had the caption, “Kyle Rittenhouse drinks the best coffee in America,” and a discount code for the company.

Hafer rejected any ties to Rittenhouse and said, “We’re not in the business of profiting from tragedy.”

In 2017, Black Rifle first entered the national spotlight when it promised to hire 10,000 veterans. The move came in response to a Starbucks announcement that it would hire 10,000 refugees.

Starbucks’ initiative came shortly after former President Donald Trump issued an executive order to bar U.S. entry for people from seven majority-Muslim countries and all refugees.

Black Rifle has a history of giving back, especially to veterans’ groups.

The North Richland Hills store previously announced it would donate $10,000 to Warriors Heart, a nonprofit that helps secure treatment for people dealing with drug and alcohol abuse, post-traumatic stress disorder, or traumatic brain injuries, according to a news release.

A post on the company’s Instagram account indicated that a store is also coming to Wylie and Benbrook by the end of 2022, but additional information was not immediately available.
