No, it wasn’t a mirage: You really did see a camel on the side of the road in McKinney

The animal was being towed in a trailer, when the vehicle had a blowout.

It’s not every day McKinney police respond to a motorist who’s got a camel in tow.

But an officer and his K-9 colleague crossed paths with the driver and the humpbacked mammal on Saturday in McKinney when the driver suffered a tire blowout.

“You really never know what friends you’ll meet on the side of the road!” the department tweeted.

The interaction happened at around 5:30 p.m. at South Airport Drive and Industrial Boulevard, near McKinney National Airport, according to a statement from the department’s public information officer. Police officer Brad Williams responded to the scene with the department’s new K-9, Jedi.

The camel was on its way to a TV appearance and was being towed in a trailer.

While the trailer was being tended to, the two animals sized each other up. Jedi was not intimidated by the camel, Williams said through the department’s public information officer.

“Jedi was very curious about the strange-looking giant dog,” Williams said.
