Ace! Pickleball is coming to Colleyville

The city approved funding of $149,000 and will add four courts in November.

Colleyville residents, prepare for pickleball.

Four new courts are opening in City Park in November, assistant city manager Mark Wood said.

The debut comes months after the city council approved $149,000 in February for the courts. Goodrich-based PTI Sports & Recreation Construction won the contract.

Parks and Recreation Director Lisa Escobedo said during a Feb. 2 meeting that she had heard from many residents who wanted the courts nearby. City Park is at 5201 Bransford Road.

Pickleball is a paddleball sport that combines elements of badminton, table tennis and tennis. It’s designed to be played on a badminton-sized court with a modified tennis net.

Colleyville players will get a headstart on neighboring Grapevine. Last week, Chicken N Pickle, a restaurant and pickleball venue, announced that it will open its eighth location and third in Texas at Delaney Vineyards.

The Grapevine location is planned to sport multiple dining areas on the main floor and rooftop dining, along with outdoor tables. Shuffleboard, bocce and other lawn games are also set to be on tap.
