Grapevine butterfly event returns this weekend

The 24th annual Butterfly Flutterby celebrates Monarch butterfly migration.

Butterfly Flutterby is back.

The 24th iteration of the family-friendly Grapevine event is Saturday.

The event celebrates the migration of the North American Monarch butterfly, from Canada to Mexico, by way of Grapevine.

Presented by the Grapevine Convention & Visitors Bureau, the Grapevine Garden Club and the city of Grapevine Parks & Recreation Department, the event begins with a parade in the Historic District, which will include a costume contest.

Participants must be registered for the contest and parade, which begins at 10 a.m. and ends at the Grapevine Botanical Gardens at Heritage Park, 411 Ball St.

After the parade, attendees can participate in butterfly arts and crafts, and view 300 butterflies from around the world.

Live butterfly releases will happen hourly beginning at 10:45 a.m. and conclude at Nash Farm, 626 Ball St. Butterflies will be tagged with a special device to help track their migration to Mexico.
