Mesquite will ‘aggressively’ go after illegal fireworks, gunfire on July 4 weekend

Police and fire staff will issue fines ranging from $500 to $4,000.

Mesquite announced it’s going to “aggressively address” illegal fireworks and gunfire for the July 4 weekend. That includes the illegal possession of fireworks, the city said in a news release.

More police and fire department staff will be patrolling neighborhoods, issuing fines ranging from $500 to $4,000, and up to a year in jail for illegal gunfire.

To report illegal fireworks and gunfire this weekend, the city asks residents to call non-emergency police dispatchers at 972-285-6336, and to not call 911 unless there is a life-threatening emergency.
