Hipsters might find North Texas isn’t their cup of craft brew

A handful of Dallas-area cities ranked among the worst places in the country to find thrift stores, vegan restaurants and indie bookstores in a new study.

North Texas is not quite a hipster haven.

In fact, a new study by LawnStarter named a handful of Dallas-Fort Worth suburbs among the very worst places in the nation for those craft brewery-loving hipsters.

Just how bad?

“You’ll find more cowboy hats than fedoras in these Texas cities,” the survey’s authors wrote.

So what makes a place ideal for hipsters? LawnStarter considered hipster faves like number of vintage and thrift stores, craft breweries, vegan restaurants and independent bookstores, concentration of farmers markets and indie movie theaters, and stoner-friendliness. It even took into account the number of Urban Outfitters locations.

Grand Prairie tied for having the second fewest vegan and vegetarian restaurants in the country, while Irving tied for first place for the fewest craft breweries.

To develop the rankings, LawnStarter evaluated the 200 largest U.S. cities.

Overall, only one North Texas city ranked in the top 50, with Dallas grabbing the No. 40 spot.

Fort Worth came in at No. 126, and Plano at No. 136.

Austin, Texas’ hipster mecca, ranked No. 9.
