Volunteers needed for Jan. 26 Tarrant County, Grand Prairie homeless population project

The annual Point in Time Count creates a snapshot of local transient population

The Tarrant County Homeless Coalition (TCHC) needs 500 volunteers Jan. 26 to cover Fort Worth, Arlington, Grand Prairie, northeast Tarrant County and Parker County in the annual Point in Time Count survey of people living in unsheltered settings.

Since 2005, Point in Time Count is a held in January to provide a snapshot of what homelessness looks like in one night for every community in the country.

“We have had a two year break from volunteers,” TCHC executive director Lauren King said. “Most are really excited that the count is back and they get to engage and support the community in this way.”

Information collected during the count, held from 6 p.m. to midnight, will better help the TCHC understand what resources and strategies are needed and to end homelessness.
