Storms expected Sunday night prompt flood warning in Dallas County for early Monday

The National Weather Service issued the warnings Sunday morning

Two flood warnings will take effect Monday morning in Dallas County after rain moves through Sunday night.

The flood warning on White Rock Creek at Greenville Avenue, near Harry S. Moss park lasts until Monday evening, according to the National Weather Service alerts issued Sunday morning. The flood warning on the Trinity River is projected to last until Tuesday afternoon.

The flooding on both bodies of water is expected to be minor. The areas predicted to be affected are primarily bike and walking trails along the river and creek.

The flooding will follow storms projected to drop between half an inch and one inch of rain in the Dallas-Fort Worth area Sunday night and Monday morning. The precipitation will move in from the west, and the weather service predicts some storms could become strong with damaging winds and the potential for hail west of Interstate 35.

“These storms will be fairly quick-moving, so we’re not expecting a significant flood risk ... but you certainly want to be careful if you’re out on the roads tonight,” Sarah Barnes, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, said Sunday afternoon.

Because the storms are moving through overnight, Barnes said they are unlikely to pose a major issue for those on the roads. She did caution against driving through any flooding.
