Dallas firefighter injured in fire at rural church

The fire at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church escalated to a second alarm.

Updated 6:10 p.m., July 28: Revised to include new information on the investigation and injured firefighter.

A firefighter was injured and in stable condition Friday as crews fought a two-alarm fire at a rural Dallas church.

Dallas Fire-Rescue, called to the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church at 2001 Haymarket Road, arrived at 12:39 p.m. to find heavy smoke and flames rising from the roof, said Robert Borse, administrative captain of fire operations.

A second alarm was called at 1:18 p.m., Borse said.

A firefighter was injured and taken to Baylor University Medical Center in stable condition. Borse said the firefighter was released from the hospital Saturday morning.
